I thaw my feeders at room temperature, and then warm them up, it also serve the purpose of pre-scenting my snake room.

I used to use really hot water, but for some reason, there would occasionally be a rupture in the abdominal area of the mouse.

You'll know when this happens because it's very unpleasant to look at, and it smells even worse. In fact, it's probably one of the most disgusting smells I've dealt with - ever. :puke2:

I don't have the physics to back this up, but I speculated it was because it was thawing it too quickly.

Lately I've been having good success thawing at room temperature for about 1 hour, then dunking in really warm (not hot) water for a few minutes to warm it up. I don't even dry them off before offering to my snakes (they seem to prefer them soaking wet)...seems to cut several minutes off the time it takes to swallow.

I'm sure the above also applies to rates, you'd just need to adjust the room-temp thaw times as well as the warm-water soak times.

I put mine in a bag in warm water (around 80-85*F) until they feel squishy and then in some hot water (95-110*F) for two or three minutes. The time would eb longer for bigger items.

Feed live and they're always the right temperature! But, when I did feed F/T, I just filled a bowl with hot water and put the mouse/rat in a sandwich baggy and set it in the water until it gets nice and squishy...never had any problems.

I through my rats and mice separate cups of really warm water(non drinking cups), and in a few minutes they are squishy and warm.:carrot:

If you have a few extra bucks, find one of those cheap mini-fridges at a yard sale and set it up somewhere. Depending on the temp of the mini fridge, ~24 hours before you feed. At feeding time setup a bowl of warm water to get the body temp up to feeding level.

One of the problems with F/T is putting a full size rat in a bowl of warm water could take hours to thaw it out on the inside (while the exterior may be warm almost immediately).

And seriously, the microwave method can be an ugly, ugly situation if you screw it up and leave it in there too long.
