Homemade Hides

I'm having trouble finding good hides for my BP. Shes 3ft long or so and refuses to use the largest snake hide from the local petstore. One of those hollowed out tree trunk halfs. I've got more shopping to do but I'd much rather makes things to spec myself.

Post your ideas for ways to make homemade hides, materials to use, ect.
Right now i'm using a box with an entrance hole cut into it :rolleyes:

try a dark plastic bowl and use a soldering iron to cut the hole out. Works great, I got this idea from someone else :D
I also use the dark pans that meat comes in now (usually at walmart) they work just as well.

I just use rubermaid tubs with an entrance hole cut in it

A saw a pic on this site of a darkbowl hide but I didn't know how i would cut an entrance into it. Soldering iron sounds good.

Here's a few hides we are using or have used.


Very small plastic bowls from the dollar store (3 for $1.00)....hole melted in with soldering wand or you can cut with a special round drill bit..we have our 06's in these right now (that's Muirne in there LOL)

Untreated terracotta plant pot saucer (under a dollar)....entrance chipped in with small hammer and smoothed with sandpaper (they break a lot)...you can also use a masonry drill bit for a nice roof hole..we used to use these for our baby BP's but they are harder to clean and break easily when chipping entrances into them

Bigger plastic cereal size bowls from the dollar store (2 for $1.00)...entrance cut in with heavy scissors...we use these for the juvi BP's up to around 800 grams or so

Big, heavy black rubber dog dish from the local feed/tack/farm supply store ($4.00)...entrance had to be cut in with heavy wire snips as this rubber is extremely thick and hard to cut (not safe to melt either!)....this fits our mature females up to about 1,800 - 2,000 grams or so

I use those same bowls as the second to the last one that Joanna posted, I have the entrance identical, I just solder mine out. I just made two larger ones, same bowl, only larger for Sierra, who just moved into Morag's old tub (formerly Godiva), because the smaller bowl she wasn't getting into, but under, with it sitting on top of her like a hat! LOL


I've also used a small kitty litter pan for the larger girls!

Robin, I swear that's why your girls are settling in so very well here. We use the same darn hides so I bet they barely know they've moved! LOL

I have them pre-cut and ready to rock on my site......I have been using these for quite a while now with great results.
