RI & Vet questions
So my new girl will be going to see my vet Dr. Gold at (http://www.chadwellanimalhospital.com) this evening to get checked out for a possible RI and to see if her eye can be saved/fixed.
I've never taken a snake to a vet before, but I fully trust Dr. Gold since he has seen a bunch of my animals before and I've only heard good things about him from all the people who have had a animal see him.
Should I ask him to do anything specific when he is checking her out or anything?
Also I'll be taking her in the bag she was shipped to me in and that will be in a box so less stress on her in the transport. Will that be good enough for her?

Re: RI & Vet questions
It's always good if you have a poop sample to bring, if you have one, so they can check for parasites. If you think she has a RI they should run a culture on the fluid developing in her mouth to see what bacteria (if any) she has. Any vet that deals with reptiles should know what to do.

She should be good in the box in the bag. Just keep her warm. Ge him to show you how to give the injection if she does have an RI. It'll save you alot of hell and heart ache in the long run.

If I were you I would ask him some basic questions about snake care during the visit. You'd be surprised how many vets that claim to see reptiles know diddly squat about them. If you know more about the proper husbandry than they do I wouldn't trust the diagnosis. Not to say he isn't a great vet, I've just heard some crazy stuff come out of vets mouths when it comes to snakes.

Re: RI & Vet questions
Randy just had a trachea wash done for HIS RI at UF. So far they have been keeping him in a oxygen cage, on antibiotics, and they suctioned the mucous out of his trachea to help clear it.
Sigh. My animals always cost me high dollars.
I'm sure your guy will do well too though!
