Crazy escape attempt....!!!

Ok my baby boy Kole (normal male) has been stationed in 20gl Long tank since I bought him. Well he has been soaking for about a week now. And as most of you know it is pretty tough to keep humidity up in a tank. I noticed him getting a little dry. So like the rest of my babies I decided to by him a tub and loose his cool little setup that I loved to sit around and watch. Well again like my other tubs I drilled a series of 1/2" holes all the way around it. Well about and hour into his new home I went to check his temps to make sure everything was still good and found the upper 1/3 of his body through one of those holes!!! Me walking right up to him scared him because he immediately attempted to pull himself back in. Well his head was kind of stuck and he had to wiggle it around a bit to squeeze it back him. Well it look like it hurt... would should I do? I don't want him to hurt himself trying to get out. Do they learn from there mistakes...?

Sounds like you need to get another tub, and just use a soldering wand (push in, pull out) to make the ventilation holes. 1/2 inch sounds too big, as attested to in his escape attempt.

When most of our BPs find an escape route they'll try it again and again until they succeed, and even after they're re-captured they still try it. I would recomend getting him in a new tub with smaller holes. We use a 1/4 inch drill bit and put a dozen holes on each side of the tub, but we are in a really dry climate so you might need to expirement a little bit.;)

I use 1/8" holes for my tubs. Escape proof and i can put more holes in them this way. ust depends on the size of the ball.:D

I just made a mistake on my hole sizes I guess. My first tub setup was made for Kali... and well she is a blood python so her head probably wouldn't even fit in the hole. Then I got my het albino ceasar and put him in a tub.. (it's been one week tommorow) and I haven't seen him go for the holes so I assumed it would be ok to keep creating 1/2" holes. :'(

Here is a pic of one of my adult tubs and I photo shopped the hole placement. I use 1/4 in holes (soldering iron also works well). You my need to make multiple tries on the number of holes you need until you get the humidity correct depending on the climate you live in.

If you have trouble keeping humidity up in your tank you have to spray your tank every few hours. I do this and it keeps my tank humidity up. But if your going for the tub, go ahead. It'll be easier to keep up humidity. Good luck!:)

Thanks everyone. I just put the drill/bit up and realized I drilled 5/8" holes not 1/2". I would have been safe with 1/2". So tommorow I will be at walmart purchasing yet another tub lol. Thanks again everyone for your replies.

5/8 is just 1/8 away from 1/2 inch. Why not just get a soldering wand?

Its faster, and "safer" for your tub... almost no risk of cracking the plastic if you're doing it correctly.... the fumes suck though. :) (...Ready Judy?? :) :))
