BCC Care

So this is related to my last post here. I’ve been looking around (here on bp.net and elsewhere) for information on BCC husbandry, but I haven’t been able to find anything consistent. I’m not sure if I’ve just been looking in the wrong places?

Does anyone know of a good care sheet(s) and/or other resources?

BCC are a little less tolerant of husbandry mistakes such as overfeeding, and I've read they can be a little harder to breed, but for the most part their husbandry is the same as boa imperator:

Looks like JM beat me to this.

Study it and go from there. We are fortunate that this is an archived information site.

My friend Bryan is also very knowledgeable on the subject and has kept Pokigron Suri boas for years.

He does not post here often, but if you see BNS post anything about BC care it is worth a read.

I remember coming back after a couple years hiatus from reptiles and being super sad that he had retired :(

I have found that, at least with imported guyana bccs, care is fairly simple. The temps I have always used range from 86 on the warm side, 77 on the cool end, slightly warmer in the summer. I like to keep humidity high, at least 70%, seems to really help with shedding and hydration.

As far as feeding goes, a meal the same diameter as the snakes thickest point 2x a month has always worked for me.

It was a huge loss for boa fans when Gus stopped producing/selling his animals.

Honestly most of the information I post comes from his now defunct website, conversations from old boa boards, or private emails I'd exchanged with him.

I really think Gus and a few others with his lines produced the most beautiful lines of locality boas.

Tommy Carpenter is another person who has kept on with the locality stuff.

Anyhow,

Those links that JM and I posted are worth their weight in gold.

I sent Sauzo and JM those links the second I saw them scoring the Rio Bravo Pokigron lines.

Once folks understand that boa constrictors are VERY different from most pythons, I think the overall care of boas will change a bit.

IMO, if you have a Suri, I would not feed anything more than a large mouse for the first year.

Then gradually shift to rats and increase the size.

Now and then I wish I would not have passed on a Pokigron Suri for a SD X Dwarf retic, but then again, there is something awesome about the retics. Mine is by far the best display snake in the collection.

Back to subject,

Be conservative with a BC (BCC), raise it gradually.

It's easier to overfeed a boa than it is to starve one.

Most of the important things have been covered by gio and the others
I've had my Guyana bcc (bc) for six months and he definitely likes it more humid than my imperata boas he's never regurged but always fed him nothing fatter than his body anyway, definitely best slow grown
