RHP's

I'm planning to make a wooden viv for my BP and get a carpet in the future and want to use RHP's. If I'm using them, do I need a UTH or anything? Thanks!

Not unless you want to.

They come in different sizes and out puts.
I use both because my tanks are glass, and the house is kept very cold.

I would avoid a UTH in a wooden viv just because the typical solutions are to put it up on a vertical wall (not very effective), or adhere it to the floor, and seal something over it (sounds like a pain).

An RHP alone is plenty for a wood or pvc cage unless your house is an igloo at the North Pole :rolleyes:

I have an ice box in Texas and a RHP alone was not enough in my pvc cages. Didn't work in my 4ft x 2ft x 18in or my 2ft x 2ft x 18in cage.

The large ones are fairly thin pvc so I wasn't to surprised but the cube is much thicker pvc and I was surprised it wasn't heated better. It was an easy fix as I added a oil heater to the room and now they are all good.

A RHP is not great in thinner walled cages and they are not great for long or tall cages. However in thick wood cages they do seem to perform well and are probably the best choice for a cage made out of it.

True. Another trick I found that worked was to put a sheet of that foam insulation with reflective coating on it. Like the ones you use for attic walls or house walls. It helps on the thinner pvc cages. And yeah, tall cages can be a pain. A long cage you can use one that is about 1/2 the length of the cage, should work. I'm using a Pro Products 65 watt RHP in my 4x2x14in Proline HDPE cage and it keeps it plenty warm but I also keep my house fairly warm at 75F so that helps too.

75F!!! Id melt! LOL! I like my house at 68, or cooler. My snake room heater stays set at 75-77 depending on the time of year. Being set there the RHPs are good in my cages. I have ProProduct panels in my large cages. I called and discussed my cages with them and bought what they suggested.

I think we found the common thing that makes them work and that's having a warmer room. I don't know how you deal with 75 in your house. My farther-in-law is like you and I just cant do it.
