I am planning on buying my first herp within the next week. I am in the process of setting a 20 gallon up similar to the sticky. I'll be getting it from a serpentarium, and not a pet store. However, here's my question....assuming I offer it a f/t mouse or rat and it chooses not to feed, (whether because it's winter, not acclimated, or simply not hungry). What do you do with the unused feeder? Throw it out and then buy a new one two weeks later to try again? I assume you can't re-freeze and re-thaw.

I personally feed fresh killed rats to my gals so if my BP doesn't eat hers, either of my BCI gals will gladly chow it down. Otherwise I would just throw it out.

Any f/t that doesn't get eaten I throw out. Fresh killed that doesn't get eaten I'll freeze, so long as it's still fresh and didn't stay in there for a couple hours before I pulled it out, then it turns into next week's f/t.

x2 If it's fresh, there's no need to waste it. Otherwise, just toss it. Better safe than sorry.:snake:

I've re-frozen refused feeders before with no issues but I'll only do it once. If it's refused a second time I'll trash it. This was more of an issue when I only had 1 or 2 snakes. Now that I have 6 critters any refused meals get passed on to one of the other snakes.

I don't refreeze uneaten prey but I have refrigerated it to try again in a few days (if it's not too far past fresh) Otherwise I feed it to my bullsnake.

I re-freeze any refused food items. Freeze-thaw does take its toll so usually only doing it once is advisable.

You just need to get several so you also have a "garbage disposal " snake! Nice to see that's the norm. I have 2 I never have to thaw food for since they're bound to get the refused meal from someone else. I have refreezed larger rats since they're a bit more expensive to waste if they're too big for my Honduran disposal.

Get a boa and you will never waste a meal.

If you feed feed frozen thawed you should just buy bulk online that way your not going to the store every week! They are good in the freezer for about six months . I use perfectprey.com great guys and quality rats[emoji106][emoji106] have an order on the way now
