    I'm not sure, but I know some tarantulas rip the hair off their rear ends and throw it at enemies. It's supposed to be really itchy and stingy.

    1 - Which mexacan reds, there are 6 or 7 species that are from mexico and have a lot of red or orange on them?

    2 - The bald spot is from flicking hairs, eventually they run out. With most brachys they are pink and fleshy colored there. When approaching molt it turns darker until it reaches black as the new hairs grow under the exoskeleton. The one in that pic is getting closer. Age and health have nothing to do with the baldness, strictly how nervous the spider is and how prone to hair flicking it is.
