Egg cutting

Hi everyone, my bp laid its eggs last may 20 and it is incubating at around 89-90°. Should I really have to cut open the eggs? If yes,when would be the right time?Today is the 49th day. Thanks!

To each their own, but I don't cut any of mine, at least not yet. My plan is to wait until the first one pips, then any that haven't pipped in 24hrs or so will get cut to check, but so far I haven't had it be an issue. Also haven't bred that many yet, so I'm sure it will come up.

I also wait for the first pipper and then cut the rest.

Some people cut at day 55, but like Darkbird I don't plan on cutting any of mine until I already have pippers and the need arises. My temps fluctuate some in the incubator I have, so if I get impatient and cut my eggs too soon it's possible my hatchlings could be underdeveloped. The last thing I want to do is endanger my hatchlings because I couldn't wait a little longer.

Must have meant April 20th? That would make today day 51 which means it's getting really close now.

Cutting eggs imo, seems unnecessarily risky. Why not wait and give the egg the chance it really needs which is to not lose any blood or vital fluids. Everything the developing animal needs to survive is contained in that egg for a reason. When it's time for it to emerge it will. It actually seems kind of cruel to cut a egg. Totally my perspective on it.:salute:

There is NO need to cut. People cut because they like to see what's in the eggs prior to them hatching on their own. There are rare instances when cutting is required, but this also comes with some risk. So if you can hold off, let them pip and hatch on their own. If not I'd recommend to cut near day 55 and not sooner.

Sorry about that. It's april 20. Yes you're right why not wait a little longer and let them hatch on their own. But I am just curious upon watching those videos some people cut eggs at day 52 and I see blood coming out.what will happen to those that have cut the veins?will it will still survive?

Cutting small veins generally won't cause you any issues but it can be minimised by candling the eggs beforehand and marking the veins with a dull pencil line. ;)

Since you don't really want to make too large a cut anyway ( I use a V shape ) you shouldn't have a problem finding a site with no major veins.
