Male Sparring with Female?
I had some animals with me yesterday at the expo out of my personal collection that didn't sell. I decided to pair up my female calico with my male pewter bee granite. I have paired them in the past but the male hadn't been locking with females at that point so it was a bust. He has been locking with a few other females since then. Fortunately I was cleaning the rats in there today about an hour after I put them together. I heard a few thuds and looked over to realize the pewter bee is full on sparring at the female, who was not returning the gesture. I pulled the pewter bee out and MAN that was intense.
So I'm wondering, has this ever happened between a male and a female, perhaps if the male is a spider combo and is stressed out from being at the expo? I bought the calico from Dan Wolfe and while I realize mistakes happen, they probably happened to him less of the time than average. I have probed and popped the calico myself more than once and while I'm not very good at popping, she probed 3 scales multiple times.

Maybe she mouthed off to him before you came in the room? ;) Haha!
No but, really, I have heard of males and females sparring before. It's not terribly common, but I have heard of it in the past. Maybe give him some time to calm down and then try pairing again?
Have you ever paired the female before?

He is about 2500g and just takes it.
But does he spar? What I mean by this is he raises his head up like a cobra and then strikes, closed mouth, with emphasis on chest slamming and not on any contact with his head.

He's showing dominance. Pure machismo.
She may not be receiving him quick enough, or is rejecting him. :colbert:
And he doesn't take rejection well. :taz:
