Have to vent about this...

:? Okay, its nothing really serious...but my big male Apok is driving me nuts with this...he INSISTS on burrowing underneath his hide box all the time...!!!! no matter what I do to anchor his hide box to where he cannot get under it he somehow manages to nose under the box and lift it up and go under it. And he spends all his spare time :roll: curled up out of sight .

Man, I have tried shoveling substrate into the hide box to make it too heavy for him but nothing works. This is like a peeve of mine and an issue that I have with him. He is getting pretty big and strong and I cannot discipline him anymore like I used too. :wink:

I arrange his enclosure like I like it and he goes and tears it all apart. Sheesh.... :x

I haven't had that problem yet, although my bp continually knocks over his humid hide by climbing on it. :)

she's knock anything and everything over that she can get to if i do something she doesn't like

Yeah sometimes you just gotta let them redecorate the way they like. ;) I myself would find it incredibly cute and funny if I went and checked on Pelota one night and she had all her hides and greenery moved around and redecorated, lol. :)

how big is he and whats the size of the enclosure?
vale is 2.5ft and the enclosure is 4x2ft. a flower pot should be heavy enough i think - thats what i use and no problems so far.

i wouldnt worry about it they do that alot. Out of mine 3 of the like to hide inbetween the newspaper that i use as there substract in my rack.

Ball pythons know ball pythons better than humans know ball pythons. Therefore, if he wants to go underneat the hidebox you should let him.

Personally though, I would guess that he just doesn't like the hidebox the way you've meant for him to use it. Try something heavier with a low profile. Clay pot bases or shallow clay pots are great for that.

Kitty keeps hiding behind his falls but in the process he pushes it out to the middle of the enclosure, so he is really just hiding in the corner over there on the cool side. I am going to get some velcro and velcro it to the bottom. I am determined to make it so he is at the right temps and this habit of his is not good, it is to cool over there for him to spend all his time there. We are going to go galavanting tonight while the adhesive is curing, maybe then he will stop being goofy. Sometimes I wonder if he is looking forward to winter, like his mommy, so he stays where it is coldest.

I have silk plants hanging on the walls and around some of the stuff in his tank. He loves to crawl through them and pull them down.

Yeah, I just flipped his humid hide over (it's more stable now), since Issa never goes in it anyway. He liks to "bask" on it. This way it doesn't tip over. He had knocked it over once, and happened to move the substrate around enough so that some glass was showing, but that was quickly fixed.

It surprises me that I never see him in his half log hide anymore, but then again the top and the uncovered side has a towel over it, for insulation, so I guess he's feeling ok. His temps are fine, and with the tempgun, as far as I can tell it's not getting too warm in his hide.
