BP Husbandry questions

Hello there

I have a 10g plastic tank that i will be using for my BP when i get him on monday. saturday I am going out and buying all the necessary equipment.

will these be good

is there anything i am missing? I do not want to use an under the tank heater. I just dont trust them

Ditch the lights, BP's are nocturnal critters and lights stress them out. If you don't want a UTH get a heat lamp or ceramic heat emitter, but no bright lights.

I don't like aspen as it molds quickly in high humidity environments. Get the cypress bedding.

Analog gauges are typically inaccurate and the sticky stuff on them usually ends up stuck to your snake, not the tub. Get the digital model with a probe.

The UTH is a thin heating element (wire) encased in a pouch that can stick to a surface. This 'technology' has been used for a long, long time. Added on a $10 lamp dimmer and it's kept steady temp so far (admittedly I've only been at it for a month).

Just got this gauge from Home Hardware (probably any major hardware chain will have their own) and am quite happy with it. Has a probe so you can see both room temp and enclosure temp + humidity and can show highs and lows over the past day or week.

go to Walmart and pickup a AcuRite thermometer for like $15. you wont regret it.

I would recommend a Thermostat for the UTH when you get a chance. I just switched from the dimmer switch to a Tstat and it was well worth the investment. My temperatures fluctuate in my apartment quite a bit, and I was constantly having to make adjustments to keep the temperature where it needed to be. Since I added my stat I have not had to touch a thing, no more adjustments, no more worries.

EDIT: Oh and I second the Accurite from walmart, can't beat it for the money and gives you all the readings you need, quite accurate as well.
