Help! Cloudy eye!

Sampson had just shed about a week ago, and his right eye is still a bit cloudy. It still has the same little indent it had before he shed. Is it possible that it is one or two un shed eye caps? If so how can I get it off without hurting him?

It's probably a stuck eyecap.

I wouldn't do anything to it. It'll most likely come off with the next shed.

Leaving it won't cause any kind of harm to that eye? What about bacteria build up?

Leaving it alone and seeing if they fix it on the next shed is much less likely to cause harm than poking around their eyes trying to help them, IMO.

If they pile up multiple stuck caps you will probably want to do something. There are things people do to remove stuck caps or you can take him/her to a vet for help with it.

But for one or two, you can probably just wait it out and see if they fix it themselves.

Alright, and also, I believe Sampson has mites -sighs- I just got him new aspen, as well as my other snakes, do I have to treat him only or treat my other snakes for mites too? And what about his hide? It's one of those cork bark hide thingers. Should I throw that and his bedding in the garbage? I'm planning to buy some mite spray today.

I would treat them all, even if none of the others have any issues. You might be able to salvage the cork, but I'd just toss it. Not worth the effort it would require. Also, make sure you get something for the tank/furnishings AND the snake. I used frontline for both when I had mites.

yes you should throw that bedding away you are supposed to change it every now and then about the eye-caps they will come off soon.IF YOU THINK YOUR SNAKE HAS MITES CALL A VET. (sorry for caps lock:rolleyes:):(

No need for a vet for mites.

Throw out the bedding, clean and treat the cages with Reptile Spay or PAM(provent a mite).

I personally like Reptile Spray. It's cheaper and available at Petco. It can also be used on the animal when PAM can not.

Treat the floor around the cages and vacuum. Again I used Reptile Spray for this. I had mites once on three bloods I ordered. One treatment killed them with to issue.

Are you sure they are snake mites and not wood mites? Just checking since you mentioned new aspen.

I think I may need some step by step help in getting rid of these mites.

I don't really know what a wood mite looks like. :\

But I was told mites likes to hide under the snakes eye rims as it is a vulnerable spot for them, and I saw a tiny little black bug scurrying across his left eye cap while I was checking out his right eye cap.

As for the Cork Hide, I was told to put it on foil, and put it in the oven on 350 heat to kill any mites that might be on it.

To scrub the other hides for my other snakes with water and bleach and let dry

And to soak my snakes in vinegar and water.

I don't know how much vinegar and how much water to soak them in or if it is even safe to do this.

I got Mite Off as it was all I could afford right now. I'll throw out their bedding and place them all on paper towels for the time being.

I was told to spray them with it until they are dripping and to get it under their eye rims and that little gap under their bottom jaw too.
