Yup sage took a small rat it was really hard to kill i had to wack it 4 times. Then i wiggled it in front of her and she striked and constricted but she seemed confused like she couldn't figure out were the head was and lost interest so i went in there with my tongs and sqeezed the head until i heard a crack and she immediately started eating. She has a big lump.

See I'll be straight with everyone, I kinda like rats. They're cuter than mice, don't smell as bad, and unfortunately seem like they have way more cognition goin on than some other rodents. That being said, I really don't enjoy having to kill them before I offer to my snake. But its necessary evil, so i do it anyway. Definitely going to be switching to f/t as soon as she'll start to take them....

You can always put em down with CO2

At the place where I buy my feeders they bred their own rats. They have the coolest way of knocking them out. They hold it by the tail and swing it so the back of thier necks hit their wrist and that puts it out immediately then they check for a heart beat and do it again if they need to.

I've brainstormed an idea to cheaply and humanely put down a rat.

1 CO2 bottle with on/off valve, found at any paintball supply store.
1 hose to run from the bottle
1 heavy duty freezer bag, easily replaced if the rodent claws through it.

Place the rat in the bag and push as much air out of it as possible.
    Seal the bag.
    Inflate the bag with CO2.
See the rat go to sleep, no pain or blunt force needed.

Would enough CO2 be present to put down the rat? And if this is a dumb idea, please say so; I've never tried it.
