How does one go about exporting?

Since that is now my only option to keep my burm breeding plans going. :confusd:

I don't think you can.

Wouldn't the lacey act prevent that?

Unfortunately true. Even if you could, exporting is generally only done with very expensive animals or large quantities. CITES papers and international shipping is very expensive and takes a long time unless you have master CITES papers.

By federal law (Lacey Act), burms cannot be imported or exported. They cannot be transported over state lines as well.
You would have to find a burm breeder or keeper in your own state in order to get more burms.

It's a shame so few keepers understand this law. No wonder it passed so easily.
CITES has nothing to do with the Lacey act. One pertains to endangered and threatened species the other with invasive species.

The Lacy act prevents me from shipping burms across state lines or IMPORTING them.

With the prices they are getting overseas and the fact that I will be producing over 100 babies this season ( if I can export) it is well worth doing.

Doesn't exporting them involve them getting shipped over state lines??

That's the problem. The ports of exit are Miami, New York,and Los Angeles. The would have to go from Louisiana to one of these states first. According to the law you can file for an exemption, but I haven't heard of anyone doing it yet, the outcome, or what it entails.

When did the port of New Orleans lose its Export hub?

If those are the only three ports, why in the world would bob Clark open a facility in Houston?
When exporting cargo ( which this will be considered) shipping is much different. I know for a fact I can export from Louisiana through New Orleans, Lafayette, Alexandria, and here locally in New Iberia. But none of those places can tell me how to get started.
And as long as the plane don't touch down in another state before leaving the country them there is nothing illegal about it :/

I would call up a breeder that has their Cites to figure out how to get one.
