    Do I have mites?
Hey guys, well I got my male killer bee on Friday and today I noticed he was in his water bowl a lot. On further examination of the water bowl and the snake its self I am pretty sure it has mites. This is my first time and all advice on what to do will be greatly taken. Here are some pics oh his belly, I am assuming these are mites? http://i1189.photobucket.com/albums/...psff06698f.jpghttp://i1189.photobucket.com/albums/...ps715f5e28.jpg

Those are defintley mites I haven't had them personally but my friend had his collection bombed by a snake he didnt quarantine.

Follow this guide it will help you win the battles and most important the war in mites. My friend and me followed this guide to the T and its wonderful. http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...t=nuking+mites

I'm sure some one will sit here and try to battle with me about the Nix, well they're wrong and ill battle it to the end. Everything in this guide is well written and will help, I wouldn't recommended it so much if I thought it was poorly written or was harmful to the snakes.

It doesn't look like mites to me.

Snake mites look like poppy seeds. Those just looked like smudges.
Regardless if a snake has mites or not, always treat new additions in QT. It's a good preventative measure.

Just PAM the tub, let it air dry for 30 mins to an hour, and set it up with a minimalistic set up of a water bowl and paper towel substrate. Return the snake into the tub. And repeat the treatment 3 weeks later.

If you do see mites on your snake, you can also bathe it in warm water with a few drops of dish soap.

Looks more like newspaper smudge to me, or maybe some dirt if you're using a loose substrate?

Provent a Mite (PAM as satomi said) is the BEST!

But I don't think those are mites.

Now that you mention it, he was on newspaper before and I don't see any on the paper towels.

Yes I got him Friday, and he is in quarantine with a water dish and paper towels.

110% not mites. Mites are little round dots, not smudges. Also.... the dots move ;)

NIX or RID work really good, i used RID and no more mites, alot cheaper than any reptile sprays or PAM
