    Three Questions
    Greetings again!!

First question: should i block out the back and sides of my snake's tank?? I see some who do and some who don't...just want to do what's best for Mycroft

Second: Mycroft makes a whistling noise when be exhales rapidly...normal or aberrant??

Third: Does he NEED to have 2 hides?? I have one that is a half log (my original one I got for him in my time of ignorance) and a second one that is a dome-shaped one. He seems to spend all his time in his dome one, and with both hides and his water dish he doesn't seem to have a lot of room to move around in the 20 gallon tank he's in.

    Thanks for clearing them up

I have mine blocked out with fancy jungle type look. I would keep the second hide...you don't know what he does when you're not looking lol
Lex spends 99.9% of the time in her hot hide...but I occasionally find her in the other one!!

I can't help on the whistling yet sorry!

You don't have to. It's something people do if the snake is not eating, helps them feel more secure.

Could be from shedding. Just keep an eye out for bubbles/mucus coming out of his mouth. That would be RI.

No, as long as your temps are correct. Anything older than a hatchling in my house does not get a hide. They are all in a rack system though so that helps them feel more secure. I recommend always using hides in tanks/large cages. He's using the dome hide because he feels more secure since it only has one entrance and it's much more enclosed. Log hides are too open, most bps don't care for them. If you want to have two hides they need to be identical because the snake will chose the one it feels more secure in regardless of their temp needs.

I'm thinking I should either remove the log hide altogether or replace it with another done one....

If I remove the log hide he'll still just hang out on whatever side the dome is on...right??

He will be happiest <I thinks> if he has identical hides. That way he can thermo regulate and feel perfectly safe and comfy.

I'm just concerned about how cramped his cage looks; 2 hides and a water bowl in a 20 Gallon leaves a little to be desired...IMO

I have 2 hides and water bowl in a 10 gallon
I would just get another dome and take out the log

He can always hang out on top of the hides if he wants to stretch out. Make sure your hides are snug - that will help with floor space, also. Blacking out the sides might make him more likely to spend a little time outside of his dome hide.

Blocking out the sides is usually done when the snake is very shy and not eating. If Mycroft is eating just fine, then blocking it out is up to you.

With the whistling, check for stuck shed. As stated watch for mucous, as could be RI. One other possibility, is Mycroft very young? Is he breathing really heavy when he does it? Sometimes the little ones get stressed and breath really hard.

As far as hides, those half logs are horrible for bps. Thats why he never uses it. I would ditch it, and get a second identical hide. I wouldn't worry to much about it being cluttered in the tank. Especially if he is small, as small and cluttered provides security for him. How big is Mycroft? If you are worried, post a picture of him and his set up for us to see. :)
