    Did I strike out?
OK, I have suspected that my dinker male is a fire, so, I paired him with a normal female that had similar pattern but normal coloration. Here are pics of the parents and of the hatchlings. Please give me your opinions, did I strike out or is the male just a light colored normal?

That male sure looks like a fire to me. But there's no way to tell for sure unless you try again. Same thing happened to me with my granite x normal pairing this year. Babies all look pretty normal so I have no idea if he's not genetic or if I just hit bad odds.

Yeah just cause the odds say you'll get something, doesn't mean you will. Friend of mine bred a het pied X het pied, with the female laying 9 eggs, and NOT A SINGLE PIED. :rolleye2:

Sometimes you just get the short end of the stick

From what I understand, fires tend to lighten as they age, so, I'll raise them up for a while and see what happens. I guess the only way to truly determine if he is in fact a fire is to breed him back to one of the females from this clutch and see what happens.

I would keep an eye on the one with the light head color, upper right in the pic. It might be a fire.

They do look normal to me, however I have hatched Fires that took awhile to really look like Fires. If it doesn't make a difference to you, I would say keep the babies and see if they start to get lighter as they get older. However, I would say that it is safe to bet they are normals. That doesn't necessarily mean you struck out on the male being a Fire. Maybe he is. The odds may have just been really NOT in your favor for this clutch. I would try to breed him again and if you get the same results then maybe he is just a really nice normal. I hope he fathers some Fires for you! Good luck!

I'm thinking the odds gods aren't with me this year. My second clutch was 5 eggs, spider x normal and I had 4 normal and 1 spider hatch. My last clutch is cinny x normal, 5 days left till hatch day, wish me better luck with these.
