Sex Guarantee

Is it unrealistic or rude to ask for a sex guarantee?

I mean, when you think in terms of selling an animal one way and it turns out the other, is it also unreasonable to ask for a refund of the animal?

Honestly, I would say it's not unreasonable. As a seller when you say it's this sex, that's your word of mouth guarantee. I think all sellers should do this to be honest, the only thing is that they don't know if that's still their original animal or not, especially down the road.

If a seller lists the snake as a certain gender they should stand behind it, otherwise they should just list it as unknown.

Okay, I feel more comfortable with that. I kept thinking about it, and in terms of "morph gender" listings, if it's not the right morph or gender usually people do stand behind it.

I give a 30 day sex guarantee. at the shows, I always recommend having someone check it again before they leave. the guarantee is so someone don't come to me a year or 2 later. I also check any snake I receive within a reasonable amount of time, and if someone didn't get it check within the 30 days. but shortly after, I would still honor the guarantee. I'm not trying to get out of a mistake, but just having it done in a reasonable amount of time.

I agree with this. I've seen a few threads on the BOI where people have come back when the snake is mature and demand all sorts of things. Replacements, refunds, and (most unreasonable of all) compensation for the original animal and lost revenue for hatchlings that would have been produced. It's hard to feel sorry for them when they never double checked or waited 2-3 years to do it.

I dont think I can expect them to meet me somewhere I can have it double checked but I would take it and have it sexed, at which time if it was sexed differently than advertised they'd be seeing me again shortly.

Make the seller double check. If you buy over the Internet, ask the seller to pop the animal and take a picture of the package, lol. You could also check the gender of the animal when it arrives, just to be sure. :)

Sex doesn't change and mistakes do happen. So for me as a breeder if I mess up and you don't find out till six months later. I need to make that right.
