I have to ask...... what's up with all of them soaking? Never seen that before?

Are they using them as hides to feel more secure? Just what came to mind for me. Since it's a tight fit in the bowls

I thought that was weird too...stopped counting after 5 in their water bowls. I've never seen that either except once or twice. My first thought is that the temps are too high?

It's not too hot. I believe they are using them as hides. The bigger ones don't do that unless in shed.

Maybe its too much light and they dont like that much light when hiding and resting during the day?

i mean, they want to sleep and cant close their eyes and dont have hides and the tubs are so transparent and its very bright everywhere, maybe thats why they go for the "wet hide".

could that be it, does it make sense?

I believe this to be the case. I am hoping to eventually swap those racks for a more closed in type like what most of the adults are in. The baby racks were closed in. So I think when they transitioned to the Juvy rack that they were not used to so much light.

Edited my post. After watching I believe they are using them as hides too.

Just put heavier curtains over the windows. Or block most of the window off. After seeing every single one of them in the water I believe they are getting too much light, or there is a mite issue. I heard you mention pro vent a mite in the vid. Make it darker in there and your picky eaters might eat better. :banana:

maybe just give them hides and see if they prefer it over sleeping in the water?


i mean, where i live, there are minimum requirements for keeping BPs and hides are part of it. maybe you can make a case that when the rack is dark enough its fine, maybe the tubs just should be black, or add hides, but the current situation cannot be healthy for the snakes.

it doesnt look comfortable at all and having their butt underwater for hours each day also doesnt seem healthy. it needs to be fixed. get hides, or get black tubs, or wrap the tubs in black paper, something.

i dont think its mites.... if it really would be, it would mean all your snakes have them, and then you would find drowned dead mites in quite a number of water bowls.

Anyway, i completely forgot to say.... quite nice holdbacks, looks like you will soon get to 3 gene combos with these holdbacks :gj:


EDIT: making it completely dark has the drawback that the snakes might not have a proper night-day cycle. a hide, and a bit of daylight, would be the most natural way, this way the snakes know when its day and when its night and just choose to go in the hide during the day.
