Finally gaining weight, hope he keeps it!

I've been having trouble with keeping Magnus on weight, but he's finally at 260g two days after eating, and once he poos I'll weigh him again. He wouldn't break that 200g-mark for the longest time, so I'm thinking he's just gonna be a shrimpy boy, but I've got him proper on rats now, and he's always been a garbage disposal, so hopefully this is the start of a solid upswing! He's gonna need bigger hides, though. Heh. I always see posts about how people's 2012s are already at 500g, 600g, and I know he's a late 2012, but I've been getting really nervous about his weight. He's not a difficult eater, but he never gained anything on mice, so here's hoping he'll do better with rats!

I'll probably be monitoring his weight on this thread, as I'd like to keep an active record of his growth at this point.

I'm glad he is putting on weight for you! It may just be me, but that rat looks really large for him.

It's about as thick around as he is, and he slammed it down within 20 minutes. I would have liked to get him started on something smaller, but it's not economical in my area. I can't find any local providers who do weanlings-- That's a "small rat" from Arctic Mice, Reptile Industries. In other words, the smallest rat I can find without buying bulk, which just isn't feasible for me, as I hope for him to get much bigger before I'd use up all 50. This was the smaller of the two in my pack, and I'll probably put him on a 10-day schedule, just to be safe.

Weight today on an empty stomach, feeding tonight-- 222g. We've finally breached the 200-mark for good! Haha. He's been doing the hungry-snake cruise for a few days now, but I wanted to get the sausage-butt out of the way from last week's feeding before giving him something else. Woke up to a stinky today, so we're ready to go! He's looking at me expectantly from beneath his warm hide, lol.

how often are you feeding him? arent ball pythons once every 5 days?

Depends on their age. Hatchlings are often fed every 5-7 days on fuzzies until they graduate to hoppers, depending on the breeder. I've got Magnus on a 7-10 day schedule since he's at least 8 months old and eating BIG meals. A good way to think about it, another member on here said it, is "you don't put your snake on a feeding schedule, the snake puts you on hunger-notice."

277g after a gigantic poop. =] So glad he's finally reaching size.

Weighed yesterday, 365g! Waiting for a poo from him to get a more accurate weight, but looks like we've finally breached 300!
