First boa, a morph?
Hi all!
Im new to this forum, just registred and in need of your expertise.
I mainly keep ball pythons but yester day I bought my first little boa male, Ive been wanting one for a long time now haha.
Hes born 2012 and is about 80cm.
The guy that sold me the boa told me its a sunset but I really dont think so. He looks nothing like the sunsets Ive ever seen in pictures.
I know he is a hog cross but do you guys think he is an existing morph so to speak? Is there a way to visually se whats in him? Non the less he is really well tempered, curious and ate right away.

I'm on a tablet and the pics are not large enough to really see good detail and color. When I zoom in they get very grainy. Try posting them in a better quality/ larger size.

For some reason it reminds me of a Hog Island, but it's obviously not a pure Hog...

It looks like a hypo to me. I'm not seeing any hog island influence.

Oh ok. I really wanted a hog cross or a pure hog because they get smaller, is that correct? So how big will will this little guy get, 6-9 and thick as a thigh haha?
Dont get Me wrong, I love This little guy but I rad very clear on that I wanted a boa that wouldnt get to Big and was adviced to get him because hes a hog cross and would get a round 5".

A hog island cross more than likely will always be over 5 foot. A pure hog island gets to be 5 to 6 foot in length. I have a pure hog female who is over 6 foot in length and 26 pounds. I have a two year old male who is 3 1/2 feet and about 1000 grams.
A cross would be about 7 feet.
I would say it's just a hypo bci which you can assume at max would be 10 feet. Weight truly depends on how you feed him.

10 ft is a little large for a BCI male - even females generally don't get more than 8 ft or so. I would suggest that he should max out at around 7 ft. But M&H is correct that a Hog cross will get larger than a pure Hog. Crosses are usually more influenced by the Colombian blood rather than the other way around. If you'd wanted a smaller boa, I would've suggested a pure Hog Island male or a male Dumerils.
But this is a very nice snake and it is definitely a hypo. I don't see any Hog influence either, but that doesn't mean it isn't there. Of course, as I said, that wouldn't change the snake's maximum growth anyhow if he's a cross.
If you are concerned, a 7 ft boa is not too bad. You should be able to manage him in a 4x2x2 cage as an adult, and boas are notoriously easy to handle. :gj:

My newest boa is pushing 7 feet, if not bigger. I have no problems holding her, although she is quite strong. Fairly certain she won't be getting any bigger as she's now 10.
