    Hi all,

Just broke out of the Corn Snake comfort zone and delved head long into the wonderful world of Royal/Ball Pythons. I have always wanted one as they are unbelievably cute!

I got my wee baby girl (currently unnamed) online and was kind of wary getting her out of her packaging when she arrived in the mail (I thought this would be terrible for her but the packaging was excellent with heat packs and lots of padding). I thought she would be scared and stressed, and not to mention a bit "snappy" but she was totally fine.

I took her out and she was tame and good natured and not to mention beautiful (or maybe I am just biased)! She is settling in nicely, though it took me a while to work out the humidity she required (got it nailed down now).

    Here she is:

    What do you think?

I think she is a pretty wee girl. Struggling for names though. Need to see if she has any interesting character traits but I'm going to leave her to settle for a week or so. Not wanting her to get all stressed.

One thing, and it may be a silly question. There was no info as far as breeding/genetics when she arrived - I assume if she did have hidden hets or possible hets, they would have been noted somewhere when she was delivered. I assume, from the price she was advertised at, that she is simply a normal/wild type. Can an expert please confirm this? Is it easy to tell just by looking at markings/colours?

I have had a wee look around and it looks like a great community here. I am glad I am in the position to join it.

    Cheers all,

    Colin.

    Congrats!

She does not appear to be any sort of Morph, and if she were a known het the breeder would have stated as such and the price likely reflected it.

Looks like a very pretty normal to me. Good luck with her mate.

Welcome and congrats on the new pickup. Welcome to the addiction. And your snake looks like a normal, and as stated before price usually reflects hets but you never know.

Don't worry, you'll spend approximately a week here looking at pictures of morphs before you decide to spend more on your second snake than you would 80% of the goods you consume in your life (TV, fixing the house, feeding the kids). Enjoy!

P.S. is it weird that I'm more freaked out by corn snakes than ball pythons? They're all slender and quick and unpredictable

Welcome and congrats on the new baby. She looks to be a beautiful "Classic" (I like that so much better than normal)! Names are really hard to get just right for me- hope you have better luck in that area :)

Congratulations, and welcome! Pretty little normal girl you got there. I have to say, I like balls and boas way better than corns myself. :)

Welcome to the addiction of Ball pythons! Also...welcome to the forum. :D Your new little girl is absolutely adorable! I'm terrible with names...the only suggestion I have is to pick yourself out a theme and run with that....because now that you've bought one BP, you will no doubt need another one soon....because they really ARE addicting! ;)

Congrats and welcome to the site!

For the most part if you pay for a normal it is a normal. Most breeders have a pretty good idea of the kinds of genes that may be in the snake so if she was het for anything it should have been marked. There are people out there, though, that get lucky enough to find their snake is a het for something when they breed it to recessive gene snake and get surprise babies.
