Oil-Filled Space Heater Alternative
Hey guys and gals.....I was unhappy with the temperature in my snake room, and the way the room is set up makes it impossible to use an oil-filled space heater without it becoming a fire risk. So a couple weeks back I started researching alternative heating methods....and I found this....http://www.amazon.com/Econo-Heat-060...ef=pd_sim_hg_2
I have had this unit mounted on the wall in my snake room for about two weeks now and it works WONDERFULLY. I have it hooked up to a thermostat set on 80 degrees and the room temperature only fluctuates +/- 1 degree. It is very low profile and only sticks out from the wall approximately 1". The way it is built allows air to flow behind it...between the unit and the wall, which makes a nice convection. I was a little worried about how warm the sheetrock was getting so I applied some high temperature heat resistant tape to reflect the heat away from the wall (like the kind used on engine exhausts). Here's a link...http://www.amazon.com/HeatShield-340...temp+heat+tape I think the tape actually makes the unit more efficient.
The temps in my snake rack have never been more consistant since adding this heater to the room....80 degrees on the cool side, 90 degrees on the warm side. They claim to use less electricity than other types of space heaters, but I haven't had it operating long enough to notice a difference in my electric bill yet.

Yup....and if I remember correctly most oil-filled heaters use about 1500 watts, correct? I don't know what that translates to on an electric bill, but it seems fairly significant.

Exactly....my snake room is a converted utility room and only measures about 6'x8'....so maximizing the available room is a priority.

You're quite welcome. These heaters are recommended for rooms up to 120 sq ft, so if your bedroom is larger than 10'x12' or so, you might want to get two.....one for each end of the room. Give the reviews on Amazon a read...they are actually pretty helpful. :D
