level of white

I'm contemplating working some calico into some of my projects and also grabbing a pied. My question is for those of you that know and/or have worked with with these. Does the amount of white whether it be high mid or low translate through into the offspring? Or is it just luck of the draw and a mixed bag? I'm sure a high white has low white offspring and so on, but is there more of a percentage of getting high white from high white and mid white from mid white? Thanks guys

The level of white does not influence the level of white of the offspring in any way. I hope this doesn't come off as rude, but you could have found this information very quickly by searching 'calico' on the BP.net search engine.

i actually did that, and the answers and responses for what i found on the pieds were almost all from people that didnt have experience personally, just hearsay. i also couldnt find anything in regards to the levels of white on calicos. and i also agree, i love what the calico gene does to some of the other stuff out there. thank you for your response though. i recently got out of boas, the genetics between balls and boas in all so mindbogglingly different. im working my way in to bps, but theres a lot more ground to cover on the gentics.

No, theyre both randomn. High whites can throw low whites and vice versa. I havent bred either personally but i know people that have and theyve said that so it isnt hearsay lol.

There is also thought that the level of white in the mate can help bring higher whites. For example, if you want a high white Calider you should be using a high white Spider.

Is there such a thing as a low white sugar? I know they are the same morph as calico, so I assumed there are...I've just never seen one.

Yes, Sugars and Calicos can have varying degrees of white. Some breeders believe that it is the mother in the pairing that determines the levels of white in the offspring. I have a medium white male Calico that threw two high white offspring from a Black Pastel mother. Hopefully that holds true, as she will be paired with a low white Sulfur Calico next season.

You don't need to own an animal to look at other's clutch pictures and draw a conclusion. I just wonder if it is the level of expression of the gene or multiple other genes, or something else that determines the amount of white. We might never know. But isn't that what makes these genes cool?
