    Male vs female pricing
Kk. So i understand this has been asked before, heck I probably have asked it before. But tapatalks search is brutal.. So im asking again.

Why are females worth more then males??

I come from an agricultural background where studs are worth much more than females..

Ie a male morph can create many more offspring with his genetics than a female.

    So why the price difference?

    Because females give eggs! :)

I think its mostly because they produce the eggs.

in general they are, a male banana is worth much more than a female. females are usually in more demand cause you can breed a male to an average of 5 females. plus breeders like to have a good base with many females to support that one new male morph that just came out. can't spend 20k on a new male morph if you don't have the females to support that purchase. it's all suppy and demand

In general terms possibly that makes sense. But economically. You receive substantially more power and economic benefit from a male then you would from A female. Ie:

    General prices:
    3 proven normals girls = 700 bucks
    1 proven lesser male = 400

    Vs
    3 lesser proven girls. 3000.00
    1 normal male 50

    On average the following
6 eggs each, 50% chance Offspring of lesser ~250 each, and normals ~ 50.
    ~ clutch value =2700.00

That makes more sense. Im just very surprised that its not across the board.

Sticking with the lessers... I sell females for 275, and males for 200.. Makes 0 sense.. I dont see much in terms of evidence that females are rarer then males.. I have have read of all females clutches, all male clutches and of course mixed.

well in a breeders collections say he has 100 females. he only needs 20 males for those females to have a decent ratio. so females will be in more of a demand. once the banana becomes not as rare. there will be a point where females will be worth more than males.

with your lesser theory. when it take 3 years on average to get a female to breeding size. no one is going to waste a morph female with a normal male. I have a female visual pied and I wouldn't waste it to a male pied. in the ball python breeding hobby. to get a female up to breeding size is a huge chunk of time and many things will change greatly.

You also have to remember that with a stud (a horse stud, for example), You can have other people's mares breed to him in a pasture setting or you can collect/freeze/ship his semen. That way you can maximize the number of offspring he can produce. But with snakes, you don't generally do that. You can loan a male out, but you certainly can't collect his semen an artificially inseminate every female. That's what makes females so much more valuable. If you want to breed him to a bunch of females, you have to actually have the females to do so...thus making the cost of obtaining these females so much more.

Interesting... Maybe there is a way to artificially inseminate a female. That's something I will leave to the scientists and herp vets

I'm not sure if you could. The reptile reproductive cycle is a lot different than large mammels. But I'm sure someone, somewhere, is already thinking about it.
