I didnt close the lid as well as i thought about 2 weeks ago on my boys rubbermaid, and he decided to go exploring.I noticed later that night he was gone and ripped apart the room, but no sign of him.
I figured he may have gotten in the crawl space behind the stairs thats full of lumber and junk and would turn up around the freezer compressor or furnace to keep warm or around the rat cages to get some food,so every night before bed id get a flashlight and look around.Well tonight as i was looking around i smelled something rotten near some old hamster cages behind the stairs and it seemed to be coming from a pile of planks on the right of them-i moved a few piles and found him upside down and dead.I think since he was sitting on cold cement the food in his gut went bad and he couldnt do much about it.
Ive never had a snake die and now i feel like crap and cant sleep so i thought sharing this stupid mistake might make me relax a bit.
    thaks for reading.

Man, it happens sometimes... Everyone is gonna experience an excape a few times, I have. Some of us get real lucky and find them within hours, some don't. They're expert hiders. But that must suck anyway...

awww, I'm so sorry :( It sucks to lose a snake, I hope you feel better and don't beat yourself up about it, they're expert escape artists.

My boy escaped in December and was gone for several weeks... my sister found him covered in burns at the bottom of her closet. Escapes suck, but they're unfortunately bound to happen to everyone.

I'm sorry. That's awful. I have one missing right now and I hope I find him before he's dead.

Im sorry also, if only they knew how dangerous it was outside of there enclosure by themselves. Hopefully you learned something though, and can keep this from happening again...

Real sorry to hear that :( , good thing to do I think, is drill holes through the lip and lid of the rubbermaid (about 3 on each of the longest ends, namely the back and front) and than just run a screw through each hole and tighten it with a wingnut. Than go out and get yourself another snake and unless he comes with a welding torch he aint getting out of the enclosure. Dont give up on the hobby just make those little adjustment wich will cost you next to nothing (just some srews and nuts) and jump right back in, much better prepared this time. :D
