Any hope for my eggs?

In the middle of the night, the heating element in my incubator failed. They had dropped all the way down to 74 degrees F before I woke up and found out.

The clutch was laid about two days ago. Is there any hope for the eggs?

I haven't even started breeding, but what I would do is obviously fix the problem as soon as possible (which I'm sure you did) and then try candeling in a week or two. I'm sure by then you can see if they are still good or not?

I've dashed the box they are in to an empty tub in one of my snake racks which is at 89 degrees, I am leaving right now to go pick up an emergency incubator to use.

I've heard horror stories like this that turn out happy, so don't get discouraged. Hope for the best but expect the worst. Good luck :please:

A temp drop is better than a temp spike and Ive seen eggs that were subjected to extremely high temps (for a short amount of time) survive. I think they have a good shot.

Not gonna say you'll absolutely be fine, but I'm pretty sure a one night drop like that won't do any harm. Best thing to do would've been to bring them back up to temp rather slowly...which should've been fairly well achieved on your rack.

I would at least try to keep them alive. That's a pretty low drop. Do you have any water bottles in your incubator? I keep mine full of water bottles because our power likes to go out a lot in this town. I have enough water in my bator to keep the temps relatively stable for 8 hours. My bator is also an old fridge so that helps.

I candled the eggs today and still veiny.

I have to imagine they still stand a good chance of hatching. When I used to own ducks, we hatched eggs that had literally been laid in the water and were sitting in 60 degree water overnight. In the wild, BPs aren't regulating their temps and process as scientifically as we do. Life is miraculous. GL
