41 Eggs

My Anery Female laid 41 eggs last night. I'm very happy, but the eggs seem very small (from what I remember last year), and when I candled them I didn't see veins, so I'm not sure if the eggs are good. I'm just going to incubate them and see.

Wow 41 eggs. I thought average was like 15-25?

She gave me 25 last year. These eggs are very small, so I don't know if they are good.

Gratz and don't worry about the size. My corn girl's first clutch was 42. Over 30 were fertile and hatched so be prepared to feed a lot of hungry mouths. The average baby, if I remember correctly was only around 5-6 grams though with a couple in the 3-4 gram range so if they candle, have some super small pinkies on hand. And yes, the average is around 15-20 but some girls lay larger clutches. With mine, she only laid the one massive clutch and then double clutched after that for the most part. There was only one year where she laid less than 30 total and that was last year. She's also 11 y/o now.
I'm not sure I want my bp to lay that many... ever... Feeding that many hatchlings at once is rough. ;)

I went into the local reptile store (Ben Siegle Reptiles for those who know of them) and they told me that it would be better to incubate the eggs at a lower temperature in order to give the probably small babies more time to develop. So I dropped the temp from 82-84 to 79-80. Is this suggested? What temps do you incubate at?

I believe I incubated my corn eggs around 84ish. Of course mine were normal sized eggs. I've never heard of incubating at a lower temp to allow more time for developement.

First, just be sure to feed her plenty. She could still double clutch so you may consider some calcium supplement in her mice. As for temps, I would recommend the lower temps. I incubate my corn eggs around 79 (they literally sit on the shelf above the heat lamp on my display cage). It's been shown that they will hatch later at lower temps but it allows them to absorb more yolk. 84 is at the high end of the scale for corns and though they'll hatch sooner, they tend to have lower birth weight. With that many eggs, they'll have a lower birth weight to begin with so no reason to make it harder. I've never incubated higher than 81 and with the exception of her clutch of 42, my babies have always been 7-12 g. Like I mentioned before, the babies will probably be smaller so make sure to have tiny pinks on hand as you get closer to hatch date. It'll probably be between 65-70 days with the lower temps though I have had them go 72-73 days.
