Chlorhexidine question

If you talk to a local vet, they may be willing to sell you some as well. I've never had an issue getting any from vets around me. Some just give me a few ounces for free, but I've paid $10 for a gallon of the stuff.. and you only need a tiny amount diluted into a gallon of water, so it lasts forever and a little bit goes a long way.

Some things to remember when using Chlorhexidine. Dilute it with distilled water it will last longer (6 weeks) if you use tap water the shelf life is only 7 days. At typical dilution rates (1 oz to one quart of 2%) It takes up to 20-30 min to be effective and it must be wet during this time. The last thing that is often missed is it does not work if the surface is not clean. It is NOT a cleaner but a disinfectant, it becomes in active in the presence of organic compounds. (soap and water scrubbed first) I like Chlorhexidine, it like most (almost all I believe) need these guidelines to be effective.

So if I use it to clean my tubs out after one of my snakes pees/poops it's not effective unless I use soap and water first?
