B&W tegu care

hi im interested in getting a tegu so i wanna learn about there care (housing,temps,humidity,lighting,etc) all info is appreciated and a growth chart would also be helpful thanks for reading

Well you're certainly not going to get all the info you require by posting a question, and I'm not going to write a book just for you.

As suggested, tegutalk is a great place to go and browse and search for more specific information.

I will set you up with some basics:

Housing: BIG
Temps: HOT
Humidity: HIGH
Lighting: UV not required, but you better have a great diet if you don't use it.
Diet: you didn't specify this, but I imagine you would like a hint - VARIETY.

And a growth chart? Let's say this:

Hatchling: tiny
1 year old: huge

UVA & UVB are absolute "must haves" for a Tegu. With the UVB, MBD would be possible. Remember that putting your enclosure next to a window is no effectivee as UV rays diffuse in glass and do not pass through it.

here is what i used to make my old tegu cage i used the large land/water tub but all subtrate no water except there water dish and i used the high part as a basking area and i made a top for it out of 2x4's and chicken wire. lighting was 4 heat lamps 2 125w for basking and 100w on the cold side and 2 48" full spectrum UV's. Diet was pretty much whatever they would eat eggs raw, frozen rats, ground turkey which is nice cuz you can easly mix things in the ground turkey they won't be able to find, raw chicken.

Like previously mentioned UVA and UVB lighting are required, MV Bulbs are an all in one solution. Here are two great places to start and do your research.

If your diet is improper, then UVA and UVB can help a little. Won't help in the long run though...

Of course if you have no experience with tegus then certainly setting one up with these spectrums would be the best way to go.

While this is still a debatable subject for many species(particularly monitors), it certainly is NOT in regard to tegus. Proper lighting is essential and without UVB they cannot synthesize D3 and if you think adding a bit of that powder stuff is a healthy alternative for these animals I'm afraid you're gravely mistaken.
