What is the best Thermostate or Herpstat
Hello im looking to buy a control unit to keep the temps just right what is the differance between the two. Im thinking about getting them through MD what is the best for the money? Thanks Aaron

i have both the helix dbs 1000 and the herpstat. both keep temps really stable and spot on. helix has been around longer but i have not had any problems with either one. you can't go wrong either way. robert coombs has herpstats for 107.00 shipped/ russ rl reptiles has an ad on ks for 125.00 shipped for helix.

Both are those are pretty much the best ones you can buy, so ya either choice will be a great product. I personally use the herpstat.
Re: What is the best Thermostate or Herpstat
The herpstat and the Heilx are identical as far as what they do. They both are a proportional themrostat. The herpstat has a few more features then the heix and is cheaper. Check ut this link on my site for a little comapirson

The herpstat has a built in High/Low temp tracking , allows setting and display in 1/10th of a degreee, power matching ( this allows you to match the power curve of the unit to your enclosures effeciency), sensor matching ( this allows you to set your herpstat to match other sensing equipment such as thermocouples or thermistors that are highly calibrated for better control of an incubator environement for sensitive eggs ), allows for the setting of temps in celsious or fahrenheit, it has a cooling function intended for emergency back up fans,
those are just a few of the features the herpstat has over the helix not to mention turn around time

Re: What is the best Thermostate or Herpstat
quick question about the herpstat--the new ones measure temps to a tenth of a degree. my question is, when did this feature become available? i bought 2 used herpstats that are fairly new but they don't seem to measure the tenth of a degree--just single degrees--97 as opposed to 97.5. there isn't any setting that you have to enable to turn on the tenth of a degree is there? i just want to make sure i just have the older model and that i'm not missing out.
Re: What is the best Thermostate or Herpstat
The 1/10 of a degree just came out on the display about 2 months ago maybe sooner. Your will do the same thing just put it in incubator mode. Everything is ok on my end, you can goto my site and click on the links/info page to bring up that info and more on heating...
Re: What is the best Thermostate or Herpstat
how do you put it in incubator mode? i don't see anything about that in the manual...
