That looks great! I want to set up a saltwater tank but I don't know if I'm ready for the commitment.

Looks great! I want to set up a large scale reef. I'm looking into building a plywood tank in the range of 5-700 gallons but man it's a huge undertaking just getting it built not to mention upkeep. The way I have it designed I would plumb the overflow through the floor into my basement and run a 250-300gal sump. I want to do it sooo bad...Becky.....not quite as enthused by the idea. :)

I'd love to have space for larger aquariums.. A 300g would be nice :


I'm stuck with my 29g and pair of small bullheads for now.

I just put four new corals in!!!! pic to come soon as they start blossoming....

A saltwater tank is not that big of a commitment once a mouth water change if you set it up right... its when you put in live rock and coral it becomes a everyother day commitment. but being that you are so close i can help you with the set-up if you need it. and we can frag trade if you do coral.

Awesome Steve! Quick question why are you using bio balls and a wet/dry in a reef setup? Doesn't the coral and live rock make that unnecessary?

Yes the live rock holds most of the bacteria, but I took it out once on someones advice and some research and the whole thing crashed red slime and diatoms everywhere!!! so I put them back in there and in a week it was all gone.... might be a timing thing but i go by the "if its not broken don't fix it" rule.
