**Misting**
Just a question on misting...Do you want to mist your snake directly or is it not a good idea? Someone said it could cause an RI yet others say its ok??
Why I am asking is I am having major problems with humidity :/ I have read I think every thread on the subject and nothing im doing seems to be keeping the humidity at a proper level (water dish on uth, humidity sock, damp towel over screen, ect...) Any other tips? I am going to go get some moss in the morning for a humidity hide but will damp paper towel work until then?
My humidity is a 35...I know, not good!
This is urgent because my snake is going to shed any day now!

Also is straight tap water ok to use? A woman working at the petstore said I should treat the water before misting? Is this true or was she just trying to make a sale??

I mist my snakes when they are about to shed ( and also while breeding ). I mist them directly and I use tap water :)
What type of setup do you have? A tank with a screen lid or a tub?

Use coco bedding and if it is still low then add the moss. The moss will hold wonderful humidity.
I spay my snakes directly. not like a spray it is more like droplets of rain. I actually do not use straight tap water. Depending on the piping in your home, your tap water could have way more iron or the chlorine is high. If I or my dog does not drink tap. i do not give it to my snakes. I use reptisafe on all snakes water. :] depends on what you wanna do.

I have a 30g aquariam with a screen...I also use a red 100 watt infered light which im sure is sucking the humidity right out. I also use tropical cypress bedding. I wish I would have known about tubs aefore I got the aquarium but I spent alot of $ getting it set up properly. Everything seems to be fine other than the humidity. My temps are at 85 on the warm side and about 77 on the cool side...This humidity thing is giving me a hard time though:confused:
-
85 is cool for the warm side generally most will agree on 80/90 or with in a degree or two of these temps. I'd say your temps are too low and at a guess the ambient air temp is cool too which makes controlling the hot side and cool side harder. I'd worry about temps before humidity every time. Temps are directly related to metabolism and depressed metabolism in turn to health. Humidity is for the most part related to shedding which is important but not a as major a concern as temps.
-
humid hides will deal with the humidity but fix your temps.
-
Yes your temps are too low. I'd say bump them up about 4-5 degrees.
I'd ditch the light and get a UTH with a t-stat.

Re: **Misting**
Hi,
I generally only spray the substrate around the snake rather than spraying water on the snake directly - but that's because mine reeealy don't like it. :D
Everyone else seems to be giving you the husbandry advice so I will skip that. :)
