    Black Pastave?
My original plan with Dave the black pastel was to make black pewters, with a female pastel I was hoping to produce myself - but unfortunately, mister Toby hasn't made any eggs yet (despite two seasons of locking with girls). I don't really want to BUY a female pastel, so I was thinking of what else I could pair him with... aside from the obvious normals, of course.

My only female morphs thus far are a lesser & mojave (two mojos if I keep one from this latest clutch), so I was thinking maybe I could make "black pastaves?" Did a quick search for that on Google, but I don't see anything coming up... so does anyone know if they've been made? If not, do you think this would be a cool combo? My black pastel is very blushed, almost cinnamon-like, so I think he'd go well with a light mojo. :)

P.S. What else does a black pastel go well with, if I were to buy a new female? Not including another b.p., as I'm not a fan of the supers.

    Oh, and here's Dave!

Without flash... his true coloring is somewhere between these two pics.

If you are willing to take the long route, black pastel albinos are amazing as well as black pastel hypos. I want to go for both when I make all the ingredients! I have yet to see an adult but I love what black pastels do with the yellow belly gene, and as far as I've seen most yellow belly combos just improve with age...

In all reality, 2-3 years from now when you get that female up to size your mind will have changed many times. ;)

    Haha... true dat. :P

Good ideas, though - thanks! Btw, one of my female mojos is already over a year old (and around 400g?), and the lesser is almost two... so hopefully it won't be TOO long before they're ready. But yeah, if I got a new female for him, I'd be looking at 3ish years to change my mind over & over.

IIRC, black pastel mojaves are called "black magics" - black pastave implies three genes, black pastel, pastel, and mojave.

But it is a wicked cross. I did cinnamon x mojave last year and produced two savannahs - held back one pictured here.

Black pastel goes well with a lot of things, you could plug in a recessive (hypo, pied, etc) or another co dom, enchi, yellow belly, vanilla, etc.

Heather, those are killer!!! If my savannah is up for the task this year (still a little small), I'm going to stick him with my super pastel for some mojave pewters, the super pastel part makes me even more excited for the project!

I personally love black pastel champagnes. The black pastel makes the champagne look very smooth and almost velvety.
