Help: Securing and placement of "probe wires" questions.
So I have read a couple of threads on here...
How should "probes" be placed???
We now have 2 "Thermometer" probes as well as 2 "Thermostat" probes.(one temp and one thero for each side)
They are inside the tank as of right now but our Snickers moves them around and sometimes a probe will end up on top of a small pile of aspen substrate making the reading less than accurate.
I have read things on here about probe placement(inside vs outside of tank) but we don't have the "sticky" heaters....we have these:
hhttp://www.bigappleherp.com/core/med...b4ebdb69ee9489
They are not "sticky" heat pads but they work well for us.
We have had all probes placed INSIDE of Snicker's tank but they do get moved and we are going on vacation on Tuesday.
Snickers will get her water changed and any poo/urates cleaned up when we are gone because my boyfriend's brother will be here...he is not scared of snakes but won't handle Snickers either.(and I will be on the phone with him every step of the way when he accesses Snicker's tank)
Anyway here is a picture of Snickers tank(I had to turn the light on in the house which she hated to get this picture):

I just worry about temps when we are gone and that is why we purchased a second zilla temp controller but Snickers moves all the thermometer and temp probes all the time and they end up on piles of aspen bedding.
Should we secure them inside her tank with a glue gun or should we place them under the tank between the tank and the heat mats????
(Oh BTW the big lamp on top has a ceramic heat emiter bulb and that is not being used and we only have it in case one of the heat pads stop working.....the other smaller lamp has a infrared bulb and that is just to peak in on Snickers at night and is usually on for less than 30 seconds)
Re: Help: Securing and placement of "probe wires" questions.
I would put the Thermostat probes between the tank and heat mat. A piece of aluminum tape on the lead wire will hold it in place. Don't put the tape directly on the actual probe itself because it can affect the probes sensitivity.
The Thermometer probes can be hot glued to the glass inside the tank and covered with substrate.

Thanks so much.
But what is aluminum tape(I'm sorry for being naive but I have never heard of it) and what kind of store could I buy that at?(and would electrical tape in place of aluminum tape used under the tank be a worthy alternative?)

You can get aluminum tape at Home Depot, Lowes or probably Wal-mart. It is basically aluminum foil tape. Electrical tape will work as well. Just make sure you use enough to secure the thermostat probes.

Thanks! but this leads to just one more question(because I will be using electrical tape)
Since I am not using aluminum tape(and using electrical tape) can I tape the "probe" itself to the bottom of the tank or should I stick to taping the part of the wire closet to the probe?
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Re: Help: Securing and placement of "probe wires" questions.
I would just tape it on the wire near the probe and stick the tape to the bottom of the tank.

We will hot glue her thermometer probes(we borrowed a hot glue gun from a friend yesterday)
How long does that take to "set"? How long do we need to keep snickers out of her tank while the hot glue sets?
AGAIN....Thank you so much!
Mine usually sets in about 10 minutes or so, once it cools back down.
