help
i have a 55 gal tank with a wire top. it doesnt hold humidity at all so i keep a damp towel on it if i was to get a sheet of plexi glass should i cut holes in it?

Some holes but not many. You will always have problems with a 55. They are way too tall and you loose a LOT of heat and humidity due to wasted space.

I don't think u have to cut any holes. What Ihave would do is leave about 1/2 inch. On one side for ventilation and the heat lamp on the other and it should keep some e humidity

I use the damp towel on top as well as I use a water mister two times a day. Having a bigger water dish inside the tank helps too.

you need to get something smaller. with something that big you are just going to have problems and its going to drive you crazy. how big is the snake that is in there? with a tank that big you really need to make sure the ambient temp is atleast 80. you can cover the top of the tank to hold humidity in but leave a circle where you can put a heat lamp to keep ambient temps up, unless you have it in a room where it is 80 constantly

Also have more than one water dish helps a lot:gj:

Re: help
Get rid of the 55. You will never keep the heat and humidity levels where you want them. If you insist on using such a big enclosure then close the top off with just leaving a small gap on one end for ventilation. Another thing you can do is get a plastic milk jug cut the top off of it and fill it with vermiculite and water just like you would do a mix for incubating eggs. Put the container in the cage and keep it moist. When misting do so with warm water. It will help spike the humidity. The vermiculite mixture will stay moist and help promote humidity. But again a cage that big for one ball python does have alot of useless space
