    Thermostats?
I'm wondering which thermostat everyone here uses. I've read some reviews on amazon about the zoomed 500R and they are either great or terrible. I only have my one snake so i don't need anything too crazy, i only use two heat sources. If everyone could just give me their opinion on solid thermostats i'd greatly appreciate it.

    I only use a UTH.
What I did was with my UTH i placed the probe from the Thermostat between the UTH and the glass of the tank. Set it to 92 and let it go for an hour. after a hour I moved it up 1-2 degrees depending on my numbers and waited another hour. I did this until my hot zone temp was right where I wanted it.

This thermostat will turn on when it is 2 degrees below your max setting and turn off at the max setting. SO your hot spot will move around a bit but should stay pretty close to what ever you want it to be.

Also I have the probe from my thermometer inside the hide side hide since that's where the BP will be anyways. I have that probe attached to the bottom of the tank on the glass just in case my BP burrows down to the glass I don't want it to hot.

I'm pretty sure mine are Zoomed. They have a little swing (~3 degrees) because they are the on/off type, but otherwise I have no problems with them.

I have a helix thermostat on one of my racks, and a reptile basics ve-300 on the other. I like them both. They work great, and I have had on issues with either.....:gj:

That one works fine, you can't beat it for the price. I have 3 of them.

If you need two probes the herpstat II is a great. Two probes one unit done. The VE looks really nice too but you can't go wrong with the helix or eco zone either. They all are have the same accuracy and swing about 1 degree max, I have 3 pros and one II and a ND and I have never seen that much myself about .7 is the largest shift I have ever seen.

The 500R does have a 3º shift before the set point, so 6 degrees up or down then add the complication of setting it and you have a train wreck.

In my opinion a on/off type with a 1 degree shift from the set point (Johnson, ranco, hydrofarm) are best suited for a heavy based enclosure (tank) with reasonably stable room temps. Or in a fully regulated room in a rack without direct heat (a little air space) both cases buffer the snake fro the direct heat of full power for 2 min the pads can reach over 120º before shut down directly attached to a plastic walled tub that will deliver 120 interior temps.

i use helix and the zoomed 500r. they both take quite a bit of tinkering with to get temps. right, but i have had success with both. the individual setup and devices used make the most impact on which will work best for you.
