How to make a Platty Daddy?
I'm confused... can you make a platty just from breeding a sib to a lesser? Or do you have hold back all of the normal looking offspring and breed them back to the sib? If you can make a platty just from breeding the sib to the lesser, what is the probability of getting plattys?

    Thanks!

The Platty has to be bred to a normal or a "normal Platty gene carrier". From here you can take any normal offspring (which all carry the platty gene) and breed it back to a lesser or a platty to get plattys. From my understanding you will not get "normal Platty gene carriers" from breeding a lesser to a normal. I hope this helps.

Ok I dont think you understand my question. Can you take the gene carrier normal looking snake and breed it to the lesser platinum and create a platty daddy in that clutch? Make sense?

what's the difference between a platty, and a lesser?

From what the general herpetoculture public believes about platty daddies:

    Yes.

I still don't know why this hasn't been cleared up definitively yet, but information on clutches produced by platty daddies seems to be pretty slim and that seems to hold back the understanding of what is going on with the genetics.

RDR's breeders page shows Platy X Normal looking offspring of Platy for 2005 clutch 42 and 71 (each producing 1 platy) and 2007 clutch 7 (one platy), 12 (2 platy), and 29 (no platy).

He also eventually produced a normal looking female from Platy X Platy that should be homozygous for the hidden allele and when bred to a homozygous lesser should produce all Platy.

Yes. simply put you can produce Platty Daddys from breeding lesser x het platty "sib".

And any breeding where one parent can provide the lesser allele and the other parent can supply the hidden/dilute allele. The thing to remember about them being alleles is that the same parent can't provide both. Platy X normal can't produce Platy because the Platy can only give one or the other version of that gene to each offspring, but not both. But any combo you can think of where one parent has hidden and the other parent had lesser could produce a Platy.

So what would the percentages be of breeding a lesser platinum to a hidden platty gene normal?

one in four shot. just like u breed a lesser to a spider.

heres what i know about how to make plattys.

when u breed a platinum to a normal u get lesser plattys and normals. these normals carry a gene (which is not shown in the phenotype- thats why its called hidden- just like a rezessiv gene- (het albino or so).

when u breed a platinum or a lesser platinum to these hidden gene babies, u get a 1 in 4 shot to produce another platinum.

about this part im not 100% sure:

    if i understood that right:

when u breed a platinum to a pinstripe u get hidden gene normals and pinstripes (as well as lessers and kingpins). these pinstripes are 50% het for hidden gene.

in europe mcs breed a lesser fire to a normal (which probably is a hidden gene carrier). they got a platinum fire from that breeding. its not 100% proven that it is a platty fire, but everybody thinks so.

that meens u have two ways to produce platty combos.
    1. breed a lesser combo to a het daddy
    2. take a proven hidden gene morph offspring from a platty breeding and breed it to a lesser
