What do you use for the basking spot?
My friend says that a heat lamp is best for 1 90-95 degree basking area, however I believe an under tank heater is correct. What do you think?

UTH are best. They need the belly heat. They are nocturnal remember? The heat lamp isnt the best idea cause it will raise ambient temp also. You can use a red bulb but I really prefer uth/heat tapes

Heat lamp is good for supplementary ambient heat though isn't it? My "cool" side gets down to 70% sometimes at night so I use the overhead lamp to warm it up a bit.

UTH. Sit a hide over top the UTH and the heat from the floor will create a hot spot for the snake. You should try to keep ambient temps around 80 and then work with your hot spot. You can use heat lamps to keep temps up in the cage but they really pull all the humidity out while doing so.

I use a UTH on a thermostat and a 60W CHE instead of a heat lamp, it wont dry the enclosure out like a bulb. The CHE keeps my ambient between 75* and 80* depending on how much the air conditioner has been running, some days I dont need it running but its nice to have when I need to bump the ambient up.

You don't need lamps at all. Bp's get there heat by the belly not the back. That means it's important for the ground temp to be proper not the air temp. A UTH is way more efficient for them.

On one rack I use 3" Flexwatt under the tubs and on the other rack, I have 11" Flexwatt back heat. Both do the job nicely.

I'm a huge uth advocate but if the rooms ambient temp is low then added heat is essential.
It is very important to get the ambient temp correct as well as have a hot spot, and sometimes the uth just doesn't cut it.
