Pacman Frog Breeding Project : PIC HEAVY!!
Okay, so after some time with our first Pacman (Male Albino) and acquiring an adult female (Normal Green) , we decided to give breeding a try. We did MUCH research and even though it was said to be almost impossible......we succeeded!!

We waited for a good rainy few days to get them in the mood.......this started the male singing and he attempted to amplex a few times but no luck. So my Husband set up an old pond pump to run a fountain spray of water in the tub and Wahlah!!

Wednesday - July 14th, 2010 we woke to find many eggs had been laid and we hoped fertilized. We found out that many were by the afternoon!! We had read it took 24 to 48 hours for them to start hatching, but we were skeptical. Sure enough, Wednesday afternoon they started hatching and free floating.

I have taken some pics of them as they grow........OH HOW THEY GROW!!

We were told they could ONLY survive if they had live food. We fed them mosquito larvae & Gulf Coast Toad tadpoles for snacks, but we used frozen Bloodworms as the staple diet and they are thriving! They LOVE their Bloodworms!

We are now looking at maybe another week before they are ready to emerge as froglettes. Here are some of the progression pics & video. So far we have had some cannibalism, but are trying our best to keep on top of things. The genetic Gods were with us on this one, we seem to have a higher ratio of Albinos than Normals.

    Enjoy!

Daddy.......Will post pics of Mom when I get some!

Interesting about the albino vs normal ratio! Is the cranwelli albino trait a dominant trait?

Congrats on your success, keep us updated with pics as they develop please!! Breeding ceratophrys species is on my 'to-do' list eventually, probably with ornatas :D

I don't know if you're aware of what you have accomplished? Many try and fail. I've only known of one other owner successfully breeding them on their first try.

    Congrats!

I am sorry it has taken me so long to post updates on these little guys. We have had some Life Drama as well as trying to keep up with all these hungry mouths now!!!

They are growing and healthy & happy. We still have some that are tadpoles, but the larger ones are frogletts and eating like pigs!! We got lucky and have so many colors!! They range from :

    Browns : Light & Dark
    Greens : All shades
Albinos: Pink, Red, Gold & Green

Here are pics of some of the frogletts so far in Slideshow form :

There are 21 pictures in the Slideshow, didn't want to blow up the post!
Each photo is of a different froglett.

    Enjoy!!
