Video of New Reptile Room!
I finally finished my new reptile room and moved everything in. Decided I would shoot a quick video showing what I use to house my Ball pythons and would like to know what everyone thinks? YouTube - New Reptile room
Thanks!

Re: Video of New Reptile Room!
Great video, thanks for sharing your room and setup.
I have a few questions:
It would appear that many users on this forum use a rack setup, particularly the ones with plastic tubs.
Have you found any long or short term issues with snakes in this configuration?
Do you find this to be superior / inferior to the standard glass terrarium with all the decorations?
I also noticed there were no hides, was this done because the racks are dark enough to not need a hide? If yes, then would the perpetual darkness have any adverse effects on the snakes?
Thank you again for posting this video and reading my post. I hopeitdoesnt come off as rude, I'm just curious.

Very nice setup. Those ARS racks are top notch. Good luck this season.

I can't speak for the OP, but I use a similar setup. I like tubs because they are much easier to keep sterile than a terrarium. Just grab, walk it over to your outside garbage and dump, then wipe down with disinfectant. No joints with silicone to trap urates, and much lighter/easier to move. You also can also access the tubs to check on snakes or change water bowls without disturbing the snake much. Just slowly slide out the tub. No need to fumble around with locking lids. Of course, the big plus for breeders is that you can keep many snakes in a small space.
As far as the hide/perpetual darkness question, most racks are dark enough that hides are not necessary. I have a couple snakes that seemed to spend a lot of time under thier newspaper substate, so I gave them hides. They also happened to be the snakes in the top two bins, closest to the light. Wild ball pythons are in rodent burrows/termite mounds during the day and only come out at night if they are hungry or looking to breed, so perpetual darkness is not an issue. The small amount of ambient light that enters the tub during the day is enough to give them a sleep/active cycle.
Overall, I have found it easier to maintain balls in sterile conditions that also meet thier needs and make them feel comfortable in a rack system. That does not mean that BP's cannot be kept happy and clean in a terrarium, as many on this forum have success with that route as well. Hope this answers your question.

I have no problem answering these questions.
For your first question no I have not seen any long or short term issues with housing my snakes in a rack system.
For your second question, That is a personal opinion on how you house your snakes. Most of my snakes were hatched then raised in rack systems so they have been used to them for their whole lives. It really depends on how many snakes you are wanting to keep and if you plan on breeding or not. One reason I would suggest a rack system over cages tho would be that it is much easier to keep up the humidity and regulate the temperature. Most racks have enough air holes to have constant circulation but not enough to have low humidity.
As for your third question, Almost all of my snakes have no hides. The only time one of my snakes have a hide is if they are skittish or not eating on a regular basis because they are stressed out. You are correct that with racks the back of the tubs are particularly dark giving the snake a nice comfort feel and makes them feel secure.
I hope I answered your questions with enough detail but if not just let me know and I will try my best to answer them better.
Thanks everyone fore the comments! I worked very hard on this room getting it just how I wanted it to be.
I will defiantly be updating with new videos more frequently now that a lot of people are asking.
Thanks!
