Stacking tubs without a rack?
Does anyone have any tubs that are stacked but not in a rack? I want to get my BP's in tubs and out of the tanks cause they are taking up a lot of room but I do not have the money or time to build a rack right now.
My question is can I stack tubs without them being in a rack and what is the best way to heat them? If this is not possible i guess I will have to deal with the tanks for now :(
Re: Stacking tubs without a rack?
you can stack them no problems. You can use any heat pad or flexwatt to heat them as normal.

Awesome! So I would just stick the heating pads under the tubs like I do with the tanks and stack em? I am going to have a hatchling, a juvenile, and an adult sized tub. I was thinking of putting the adult on the bottom for now (after quarantine time, i just picked him up last night) and then putting the hatchling and juvy tubs on top of that. Could i just use a heating pad on the bottom of the adult tub and then have the other 2 tubs share a heating pad on the top of the adult tub? I was going to plug the pads into a power strip controlled by a dimmer.
Within the next couple months I will be building a rack but i am just trying to free up some space in the mean time.

not to but in but if you stack them one on top of another, won't t some bps have 2 UTHs on them, as in the first tub will have a UTH on the bottem and if you put another one on top the bottem will feel the heat from above, hope i didn't confuse you. but im wondering for my own purpose

The heat from the above UTH will act as an ambient air warmer for the snake below.
Re: Stacking tubs without a rack?
I still think that some snakes are going to get more heat than others and that will not work. The only way I could see that it would work is if you have some sort of set up where the backs all go against a strip of uth (flexiwatt) at the back.

I currently stack them in my QT room since theres no room for racks there.
I stagger when i stack where the UTH isnt all on once side. The above tub warm side will be above the bottoms tub cool side.
Heres how i have them in QT.

Re: Stacking tubs without a rack?
you can definitely stack tubs with flex or UTH's as a heating source. However, Flex should ONLY be used in conjunction with a reliable thermostat, not a dimmer. This is because you're creating a fire hazard with uncontrolled flexwatt.
Also, you should only use the same size and wattage pieces on the same thermostat. If you have a 4'', 1 foot piece and an 11'', 1 foot piece connected to the same thermostat you're going to have the two pieces be two different temps because the 11inch is a higher wattage than the 4''.

Thanks for the replies. Thats what I was looking for. I will stagger the hot sides and I think I should be fine. Thanks!
