F/T Rodents

Hey,

Today I am going to try feeding F/T to my normal who has an awesome feeding response. I already know it will take prekilled.

Anyway, I just wanted to know how you guys defrost your rodents.

I take mine out of the freezer and put them in the frig the day before - then on feeding day they're already thawed and warm up quickly.

Ok, so what if I want to feed today and its in the freezer as I type?

I put my rodents in slightly warm water for about 30 min turning halfway through. I check them by squeezing the ribs, if it's squishy then you're good to go. I run it under hotter water to warm it, dry off and present. Easy as pie for a smaller collection :)

i use an empty tub in my rack with a paper towel down to defrost the rodents for a few hours, i cant leave them alone too long because my cats are super interested in them (wont be a problem once everything gets into the snake room). Once they're fully defrosted i use a hair dryer (on low) to warm them up.

lol i just fill my bathtub with the hottest water and i throw the mice in for a few minutes then its ready to go

You do have to be careful not to cook the rodents. There was a post on here some time ago where a f/t mouse kinda exploded, some people suggested overheating during thaw could be to blame. Cooking may leech out nutrients so when I thaw I'm very careful not to let the rodent sit in HOT water for very long, merely WARM will do the trick with less risk and a little more patience.

That's exactly what I do. On feeding day, I take it out of the fridge and leave it out (wrapped up in a paper towel) for a few hours for it to gradually come to room temperature. In fact, one is on the windowsill this very moment, and snakey will be eating in a few minutes.
