I think bloods get a bad name from nippy babies, and that wild caught ones are more "aggressive" for obvious reasons. My albino Sumatran is a sweetheart, and though my Sumatran short tail went through a drama queen stage of striking and lunging with some more work I put into her she's really turning around. I don't think anyone should write off any species totally unless they've worked/handled some before, since some individuals can surprise you and really change your mind about the general consensus of the species. Though of course if you don't like this particular species for this or that that's not wrong either: I don't care for Annie's faces but I still think they're nice animals :) And though I read that Hog noses and sand boas make for wonderful pets I have no intention of ever owning them, simply because I have other interests elsewhere.
As for balls, I adore them and all mine are strictly pets right now, and that's fine by me (Heck, almost ALL of my snakes right now will be forever pets!). Though I have to say I love variety, and that's why I have many different species right now.

Fact is, I've been bitten by more corn snakes and ball pythons than I have any other type of snake. I've lost more blood to corns and balls than anything else. You can make your choices, respect my right to call your choices ignorant, stupid, and frankly- you should stay away from this hobby as you do nothing but promote negative thinking about these animals that some of us work so hard to give a better reputation.
Yes, I do believe you should not keep animals. You do nothing but give them a bad reputation. I could see you on animal planet advocating stricter laws and telling people in the pet shop "man, get a ball python cuz that blood might bite you!". Also, yes- I do trust my 16' male tiger retic over most corn snakes I've been around. He's docile, doesn't give a damn about anything, and is incredibly docile. He's never snapped at me, never given me fits- even when I'm holding him taking off a stuck eye cap or checking his mouth. Even when I smell like rabbit, he never gives me grief.
I don't care if you don't want to keep the same species as me. I care about your ignorance and negativity to the hobby. You're tacky.
Go away please.
Chris, I hope you find the species that rekindles your scaly passion :)

I actually felt the same at the OP at one time. I always have had my one ball python and took great care of him but just kind of lost the passion. I then picked up a Amel corn and then shortly after that a BCI Boa. Now the passion has returned and I love the BP just like I do the rest. I like variety. Some people like multiple balls and I can understand that also. I just recently picked up a Hypo Boa and another corn. The girlfriend has expressed interest in breeding the corns, now I am wanting to try breeding the balls as well. I don't have a large collection at all, but I have variety to it. I would also like to add a Short tailed python soon as I plan on getting Boaphiles for the Boas and what's another large cage in a stack...
Long story short, I thought about leaving the hobby then found I love having multiple species!

Hahahaha thanks for the good laugh!! Your great, you should be a comedian. Instead of arguing with you because you never run out of steam I'm going to fuel the fire.
I'm going to continue keeping animals!
I'm still not keeping bloods or retics!
I didn't say I was basing my opinion on all of one species I said for the sake of my child I'm not going to take a chance. I don't care if your snake is "tame". Snakes are wild animals wild a primitive mind. Don't believe me look it up.
You're a wack job who needs to seek counseling to channel your inner anger. Its not healthy to get this worked up over a thread on a "public forum"
And how do you understand my feelings?
If most reptile keepers hate me then why is only you making a big deal... Oh wait I forgot there are no reptile keepers here only bp keepers, which somehow in your eye isn't a reptile.
No I don't know how many times people at your work say you are crazy, but with your posts I'm inclined to agree. Not because of your love of large snakes in my case though.
Oh and one other thing your snake is having no reaction to you messing with his eye thats probably a good indicator he isn't well. Any animal snake or not, if you mess with its eye it's going to react. So you may wanna take your snake to a vet or find someone who can better care for it cause you are too busy worrying about other people.

So I've decided that I'm going to get a 2012 female oliv python hatchling. How do you feel about those guys?
.I love the family guy reference and totally agree with you.
I think olive pythons are beautiful snakes. As far as me owning one, probably not any time soon. They get around 9 ft. and that's a little bigger than I want to go. Also they are supposed to have an extreme feeding response.

I'm actually looking at white lipped, moluccans and olives right now (all of which range from 7' to 12' or so, however they stay more thin than burms and retics) but am going to start with an olive. Still don't know if I'll want to breed any of them but time will tell I guess. With the 4 female balls and 2 males that I own currently, and the one more female that I want to get, I think I'll be busy enough pimping the females out to the males that I won't need to breed anything else! LOL Do you think you'll end up breeding whatever you end up getting into or do you not know yet?

He hasn't promoted anything, he doesn't want to keep them because of his own feelings towards them. He hasn't suggested anything negative.. your just picking fights. It's YOU who should stay away from the hobby. How can you argue that a bite from a ball python is the same as a bite from a retic? Is it dangerous to keep big snakes? Not particularly if your experienced enough. Is it more dangerous than keeping a ball python? Absolutely! Arguing otherwise makes YOU, "ignorant and stupid."
You obviously feel that your justified in expressing your point of view but condemn other for there's. There's a word for that.. "Hypocrisy."
So far we're at, Self Righteous AND hypocritical.. well done.
-
No matter how tame a 16 ft retic is it's still way more dangerous then any ball python. a pissed off ball python trying his damndest couldn't seriously injure you. a calm as can be 16 ft docile retic could seriously injure you by accident. it's like saying your rattlesnake never bites so it's safer to hold then your ball python with an attitude.

Can we stay on topic please!? This is starting to get annoying and I'm not even the OP. Can we all just agree to ignore this ignorant and self proclaimed butthole (but he didn't word it as nicely), if it does in fact post again?
