Re: Parents and reptiles!
I had to wait until I moved out to get a BP and when I did I got him b/c the guy his original owners gave her to wasn't properly taking care of her. He was an adult. She was somewhat dehydrated and in a filthy 10 gallon tank with a few bowel movements and pieces of bad shed. I don't believe that age = responsibility.
As I said I had to wait b/c my mom was afraid of snakes. So I waited. If you can get your parents behind you then start slow, but it is good to see you are thinking ahead.
And as you may see for yourself: Don't judge this site by members like PP b/c he has been "shouted down" by other, more helpful members of which there are a majority. If you score a BP come back and let us know and/or if you ever need advice.
Good luck!!!

Re: Parents and reptiles!
I just got two ball pythons and once you get everything figured out it is extremely easy to take care of them. To say that a 15 year old couldn't afford ONE to take care of is pretty dumb he's been saving up money which means he could easily pay for one meal a week. The maturity aspect of this is just so dumb I just went away on vacation for a week and had a friend no reptile experience take care of my 2 leos my bearded and both my ball pythons he did it fine learned everything in about 15 minutes. Came home alive. All I'm saying is a ten year old could very easily maintain one ball python.

Re: Parents and reptiles!
When I was 15 it was my mom with all the reptiles. I would wake up and go to get something to eat and my mom had pinkies thawing out on the counter for her Savana monitor "Joanna" yuck! I wish my mom had bps back then lol. As it is I've got a little normal female here at MY house for her cuz my DAD won't let her have snakes! Lol... She has tons of reps.. Mt. Horn dragons, eyelash gekos, lepord gekos, bearded drogons geez some I can't even remember. Plus she is breeding mice for me cuz MY husband won't let me have mice here lol guess it was a fair trade but I wish my dad would change his mind. Bps are great! Anyhow to the op.... Right on dude! Like many have said on here, get your folks to the store and get em used to bps. They might change thier minds. Good luck with everything and don't forget to give us all an update. I'm sure we would all like to know how it all turns out for you. Glad your part of this forum now... Lots of great people on here that know what they are talkin about... Thats the whole reason I joined this forum. Thanks to everyone with positive feed back. Keep it real

Re: Parents and reptiles!
Yeah and everyone told me to lay off this Payson kid because he was "mature".
The thread he just made is a really good example of how mature this kid is.
I love being right....
Paysons just made a thread titled "can michael jackson use the "N" word" and if he should have the right to use the "N" word.
REAL MATURE KID HUH GUYS?

:/ I really think you do need to lay off this kid. Now you are just picking on him for no reason.
That thread has nothing to do with his maturity level. if I cared enough about the subject, I would make a thread like that.

Dude you need to lay off. So he made a stupid thread, does that have anything to do with his ability to care for ball pythons? when I was 14 I was into all kinds of "stupid" stuff, most kids are.
And you showed a nice bit of maturity "I love being right..."
Nice

Re: Parents and reptiles!
When I was 16 lets see what I had... its just a few months older than he is
Adult Blue eyed lucy
Spiders,
Paradox Bee
Lesser pastel
lessers
black pastels
normals
pastels
het for things
and some other odds and ends
All living in RBI racks, with Helixs.
Yet just because of someones age, they cannot afford anything? IDK about you, but ive heard of this word called exceptions, and that ive met 40 year olds that should be no where near a ball python. You cant just go around saying teens should not own pets, because so many of us do, especially when you have NO idea if they can afford things or not.
Oh and also, ive never had a car.

Re: Parents and reptiles!
If I were you, I would wait to get a python until you have a steady job. You will then be able to afford to care for him / her properly, and have extra cash set aside in case of an emergency. My parents did not let me get a snake until I showed them that I could be responsible by holding down a job. I think that was a good decision on their part.
