    as defined by Wiki.

Now in my eyes the reason was

He used a puppy for prey, had 2 kids watch, coated the puppy in oil and fed it to his neglected snake.

    Seriously...90 days.

All animals whether they are prey or not should be treated with respect. and this one wasn't.

If you do it merely for entertainment...it's wrong.

**I have never had to coat my prey in oil before feeding. ;)

This guy only got a cruelty to animal charges because it was a puppy rather than a bunny. Which is a shame because that is cruelty to animals even to the bunny. I'm sure you'd agree with me on that point.

However by definition of "unwarranted or unnecessary suffering or harm to animals" I don't see why the companion animal should legally be above prey item. Because the suffering is the same for both.

i agree all animals should be treated with respect. but so... the problem is the way he went about it? of was he judged based on his morality?

because i agree with ben, now although i love puppies, i don't see how the dogs suffering was someone more important than that of a rat or rabbit. I think it was morally wrong and he's a creep, but i don't think that's punishable by jail time.

Would you rather them restrict the ownership of our reptiles to keep it from happening again, or put this guy in jail for what he deserved? In my eyes, he did deserve it. Tell me this....ever have your rat or rabbit bring you the newspaper, play with your kid like another child would, protect your family when someone broke into your house or attacked a family member?....the list could go on and on....Its not based solely on what pain, or suffering the animal went through. It's based on morals and how it was morally wrong...

I could see how a dog would show more emotion, understanding, and "love" towards a human, compared to a rat, mouse, rabbit, or guinea pig. Towards being more cruel in a pain type way, it may not be. However the fact is if this is morally right or wrong....and simple fact is it's wrong. Dog's aren't being bred for feeders. They aren't being posted for $2.50 a pound to feed your giants or what have you. They're kept, produced, and such as pets and companions. This is what separates it!

This is what serparates it as socially unacceptable, however as you stated the pain is the same, so labeling it as animal cruelty is misleading in my eyes.

they're probably going to try to tighten restrictions anyway, so how does one more perverted individual going to jail change that? there's still going to be plenty in the world
