My next important task is setting up a gas chamber , I'm getting to a point where I feel I have to whack rat's and I don't like it. I breed my own and it's a little more difficult to feed them off.

Wow - This topic started from a pic of what happens to irresponisbibly feed their snakes, to a whole different discussion on humanely euthanising rodents - One thing is being overlooked here IMO - Snakes eat rodents period.


I have been scalled on other forums for feeding live, however the consensus seems to be more mutual here, which is why I hang around here.

I've kept Tegu's befeore in which the feeding response is a whole different story from that of a ball python - I prekilled their rodents by grabbing them by the tail, and breaking their necks using a pair of channel locks to snap their neck.

Do some of you not raise your own rodents to feed your snakes, afterall this is not rodents.net - it's ball-pythons.net - You are here because you a member of a snake forum "who by the way eat rodents"

I don't have any opinion feeding live or dead, as what's in the best interest is not your opinion, but that of your snake. They don't sit there in the wild waiting for someone to drop a F/T in their face.

Feed dead or live "responsibly" and dont argue over the how to kill your snakes food - They eat rodents period - Rodents are bred to be fed, unless you keep them as small little furry pets - Why argue over the demise of your rodents, while you keep snakes ? - I will not even respond to the PETA Crap :rockon:

I personally don't like feeding live and watching the little critter suffer even if only for few moments and sooo wish Ozzy would eat f/t that someone else had done the dirty deed. Kinda like me eating meat, it's ok for me as long as I don't have to be part and party to the preperation. But that's just me.

Like I said in the early years of Ozzy I had to whack a mouse on a couple of occasions ( the store's in my area where out of f/t) and I really didn't like it but it was better at that time then Ozzy going w/o food. If my only source was to buy live and have to whack then I indeed would invest in a gas chamber. I know when I did whack it was one whack, fast and painless and done.
It's easy to see why the vets/experts are against it because there has to be a large margin of error on the whackers part which would cause the several blows and that is just to much trauma.

But like was said everyone has to do there own thing. And we can choose to respect it or not.

I know people I have encountered ( non repitle folks ) have a very hard time w/ the fact some feed live and find that just utterly disgusting, my mom being one of those people. She happens to be a huge animal advocate. Heck she really doesn't like the fact keeping " wild " animals at all. And yes I have explained time and time again that most bp's and most reptiles are captive breed.

I was talking about snakes not rats...lol.Or did you mean snakes? I wotn be putting a nsake down that way anyway.
