That pointer pup is super cute!
And Dachshunds are awesome dogs! Super spunky and funny little things.

I'm biased towards Dobermans. I can't recommend them enough. Here's my doberman pitch!
They are amazing family companion pets and natural watch dogs. They were bred to be a personal protection dogs, so they do bond to their family and will protect them with their life. They are extremely affectionate, observant, loving, loyal, obedient, intelligent, and really easy to train. They learn quickly and do think things out. Out of all the other breeds I've ever had, the dobies picked up things much quicker. Not to mention that if someone was to see a dobie in your yard, they're most likely not going to try to break in. And the short hair was what sold us completely since our shepherd sheds way too much for our liking. We really like the low maintenance of not having to spend much time in the grooming department.
But no matter what breed you choose, do a lot of research and always go to a reputable breeder who does have health guarantees and health testing. The doberman is plagued with some fatal genetic illnesses (Von Willebrand and Dilated Cardiomyopathy), so health testing is really important.

Not my photo, but this is Eiko vom Landgraf at regionals

Another really good doberman kennel is Kondorstrand in Central/Southern California. Some folks seem to think that their dogs are better than Landgraf.
Really nice! I really wish I could see more Doberman Pinschers in IPO, as they still remain one of my favorite breeds. I've been to my dog's breeder's club several times before and the helper there had a Doberman he was working at one point, but I don't see that dog around anymore. At the DVG National trial earlier in the Fall, there were mostly GSDs and Mals/Dutchies, but also a Rottweiler and two American Bulldogs. No Doberman, unfortunately. One day I would love to see one on the field in person.
Thanks for letting me know about Kondorstrand! I will be visiting Southern California at least once in the next few years, and wouldn't mind stopping by. Currently I think my next IPO breeds will be a German Shepherd and/or a Malinois, but if I could see nice working bred Dobes in action, I'd be sold. Although now that Riesenschnauzers have been mentioned, I'd like one of those, too!! Love the one I watched at the trial, and I hear Armin Wrinkler has some very, very powerful Riesenschnauzers.
