    I think you should add:

*Must be religiously/spiritually compatible with me.

So if you are atheist, he needs to be one too. If you are Jewish, he should be too. And so on.

That's ideal but me and wife are spiritually incompatible but have been married for coming on three years. So, it's not always the case but isn't a bad idea either.

Yeah, I think bases of faith can be different without it playing a large part on the relationship. I'd prefer not to date someone who completely opposes my beliefs, but as long as the other person is duly respectful of the way you practice and vice versa, it could make for a really interesting and fulfilling partnership whether or not you practice the same way.

You don't need to have the same faith/religion to have a successful marriage. My mom doesn't follow any specific religion, has the general idea that there's a higher being, and that the Bible is a combination of Jesus' geneology/a number of metaphors. My step-dad on the other hand, is christian.

Well, I am not saying it can't be done. But a lot of problems can be avoided. For instance, if Mom is a Jew and Dad is a Christian, how will the kids be raised? Will they go to church or synagogue? Or both?

I have also known people that dated/married someone that was not of the same faith with the idea that the could "change them" or "convert them." It seldom works that way.

Nothing wrong with both and letting the kid choose which religion they want to follow, if any at all.
